Best hair colorist in Boston
Finding the best hair colorist in Boston can be a daunting task. I have an obvious advantage because this is my field of expertise, so I thought it might be helpful to know what to look for when looking for a great colorist.
- Do they have several years of training in their past (as an apprentice)? This is of huge importance to me. I have seen apprentices time and time again that work for a few weeks and think that they "know it all" and "have learned enough". To be completely honest they need to spend more time (most assistants at top salons will assist for two years before being promoted to the position of stylist. To be truly excellent at what you do, you should have put in your time with training.
- Does the style of hair that you see in their photos reflect what you are looking for? Most colorists (myself included) have a particular style that they favor. I favor soft natural color, so if you are looking for something rainbow tinted or grey, I may not be your girl.
- If you look closely at instagram or before and after photos by the colorist, are they truly beautiful or do they just put a ton of effort into their backgrounds and lighting? As I flit through the photos on Instagram, I tend to see some photos that had so much effort put into the layout etc, but the hair itself looks subpar.
- Do they stress the importance of at home care (product) and coloring the hair gently to get the result that you desire over time, or do they promise the desired result in one appointment? In my opinion the best hair colorist in Boston doesn't only care about the results that are created in one day, they care about creating beautiful hair that will last.
- Do you have a good feeling during your appointments, and find it easy to talk to your hair colorist? Above all else, all that we have as a client and hair colorist is a relationship. If you aren't comfortable to talk to the person that you see on a regular basis, and voice your opinions it may not be the set match for you.
I hope that this helps those of you that are working to find the best hair colorist in Boston. Stay healthy and beautiful! Megan
