Grey blending

As I myself continue to grow I think about what I do in the salon. My job as a colorist is to help clients actualize the vision that they have for themselves. I always want to do the thing for my clients that makes them feel like “themselves“. I didn’t think about how I would feel having my hair gradually start to turn grey until it happened. I suppose that that is always the feeling of youth, aging is something that will never happen to us. As a younger hairstylist I did tons of grey coverage appointments never thinking that there was another possibility. Now that I’ve matured, I often choose a grey blending service as opposed to a gray coverage appointment. What is grey blending? Blending, as opposed to grey coverage means that you will reduce the total number of grey hairs and they will be less noticeable, yet some will be left. As I see my own grey hairs I don’t necessarily want to cover them. I add some blonde highlights, and when I pull back my ponytail I can still see them in the front. Everyone is different but for me I just feel happy to have lived long enough to have grey hair. If you think about it, not everyone is so fortunate.Whether or not you choose to cover your grey is completely a personal choice. Some people might decide that they want to cover 100% of their grey, and then as they age may not want the maintenance so they may want to transition into something where they reduce the amount but don’t choose to cover all of it.My own personal beauty style is to enhance what is natural and make whatever you naturally have more beautiful. To me there is something so gorgeous about a mature woman that has accents that make her hair look “special” but also embraces the fact that she has fine glistening strands of grey running through. The added benefit of embracing your grey with grey blending? It’s not as noticeable when it grows in which means That it is lower in maintenance. When someone covers their grey the maintenance in order to keep it looking great is 4 to 6 weeks. With grey blending depending on how much blending you want to do the maintenance could be anywhere from eight weeks to three months. This is an example of a client that I used my grey blending technique on. Her hair was so beautiful and the pattern in which her grey had appeared was so lovely that I decided to enhance her color with some warm coppery lowlights and highlights and leave a little bit of grey so that people would not know whether it was her natural color or if she had visited the hair salon.
