Will dying hair darker make it healthier?
Will dying hair darker make it healthier?People ask me all the time… Will dying hair darker make it healthier? I think that there is a very popular belief that dying hair darker will give it a break, or make it healthier. This is so far from the truth. Dying your hair darker will not make it healthier but here are some things that will. Using high-quality products, avoiding as much heat damage as possible, washing your hair every other day if possible… which will cut down on 50% of heat damage! trimming your hair regularly ( This means every eight weeks not every eight months!), Not changing your haircolor drastically, and going to the colorist that uses the most gentle high-quality products possible.Time and time again I have seen people post on social media showing that they have dyed their hair darker and they say that they’re giving it a break. Spoiler alert… Almost every woman I’ve ever seen that dyes her hair to give it a break and “make it healthier” always winds up coloring it to make it later once again. There is much more damage done by going over the same hair which his first been light AND then dark, then simply keeping it light in the first place.I know that people love instant gratification and they love to see a drastic change, but the fact of the matter is that dying your hair darker will not make it healthier and in the long run it will most likely make it less healthy. Although there are some fantastic high-quality products, there is nothing that is going to keep your hair as healthy as you can by simply respecting the integrity and limits of your hair.I think in my career I’ve taken a different approach to hair then many hair colorists have. I would much rather see my clients have gorgeous, healthy hair in the long run then do something in the short term that will be different but will leave them with much less healthy hair. In life, it is so easy to have conflicting goals. You want healthy long beautiful hair… But you also want something that’s constantly different. To get healthy hair you have to choose between drastically changing your hair and keeping the health of your hair. I recommend changing your style before changing your color drastically as it is difficult to get the health of your hair back once he made a drastic change. When my clients come in requesting darker hair I always lowlight them to make them darker instead of applying a color to their entire head of hair. It lets them see what their hair looks like darker without completely wiping out all the highlights and lightness that they have. Almost always I have found that clients have been satisfied with the darkness level that’s much later than they initially thought they wanted. So to answer the question: Will dying hair darker make it healthier? No.
